Freedom and Choice in Education (FACE) is a grassroots, non-sectarian association of British Columbia families who cherish the freedom that we have in this province to create our own educational paths. We maintain that educational choice is a fundamental freedom and a matter of conscience. We advocate for the family's prior right to choose the educational philosophy and methods that are best suited to each of its members, particularly children. We promote the view that the family, or the individual, is the primary authority on what is in their own best interests, and is most likely to have the greatest commitment to the development of a unique, long-term educational path of the greatest value and effectiveness for each individual.

Families and individuals have a right to choose from a full complement of educational options, including, but not limited to, home-based learning, private education, and public school. Families and individuals must be able to choose, create, and combine educational options, depending upon their own particular needs, goals, priorities, values and beliefs. Anyone who is interested in issues surrounding, or threats to, freedom in educational choice is welcome to join FACE. We do not charge dues, and have no agenda other than the protection of educational freedom and choice.

Our primary purpose is the collection and dissemination of reliable information on any issues that might affect the educational freedoms of British Columbia families. We pay particular attention to any proposed changes to the School Act or to Ministry of Education policy that would have an impact on the ability of families and individuals to make free and independent choices regarding educational options. All members can contribute information and questions or participate in related discussions via our web site and Google Group.

FACE’s other principal objective is to encourage and assist our members in the representation of their own views and concerns to elected representatives and Ministry of Education personnel. We are not a “representational” group, but rather a “disclosure” group. If issues concerning threats to educational freedom or choice arise, FACE will not represent its members, but will encourage members to define and express their own concerns, and to communicate these concerns directly to the appropriate officials or government bodies.
